“I can understand”
‘Understand’ Meaning: perceive the intended meaning of (words, a language, or a speaker).
Yes, this is what the word “understand” means according to the dictionary. I just want to speak about the value of this underrated word in our life. Not on the word actually but on a phrase- “I can understand ”.Not on understanding new concepts or mathematical problems but a person.
Do you actually think, you really understand what other person’s intention is, or the internal feelings are…when you say “ I can understand”…??? Actually, you don’t !…if your answer was spontaneous…. because understanding takes time …may be days …months or years …
Understanding someone arises with doubts… Actually, there is no existence to ‘ I can understand ’ without the doubts inside your head. If you ever came to the conclusion that- ‘ I can understand’ …then you would have switched your shoes with the other person…and answered every ‘ whys’ with answers from their perspective. To be honest-your answers will still have the ‘buts’ attached. For example, he/she may be feeling low why because of 'this'. , but it's so silly reason. Maybe because you just switched only one shoe of the other person. If you still hold the ‘buts’ — meaning ..though the person is right…. I have strong answers to devoid their ‘answers to all the whys’…and all the ‘buts’ -the debates of your mind will win…
So finally you don’t really understand that person.
The real understanding is when all the ‘whys’ are answered without any strings of ‘buts’ attached …There would be that beautiful feeling of peace taking birth in your mind if you really understand someone..and I would say that is just ‘ little understanding’ …and that is all that matters.. because every life is unique ..you cant actually go back and live the life of any other person, all the things they were through in their lifetime to totally understand!
..’’ I can understand”
It’s not about who is right…who is wrong….it’s all about respecting and valuing other persons' feelings. A serenity you gift yourself …when you let go of your assumptions and expectations.
